Visit to Palau to attend the Pacific Islands Forum Economic Ministers’ Meeting
I will be visiting Palau from 24 to 27 April 2018 to lead Australia’s delegation to the 21st Pacific Islands Forum Economic Ministers’ Meeting.
The Forum Economic Ministers Meeting provides an opportunity for Pacific Islands Forum Ministers to share national experiences and discuss on economic issues facing the Pacific region. The theme for 2018 is ‘Building the economic resilience of Pacific Island countries through sustainable financing flows’ with discussions focusing on financing economic resilience in the Pacific and integrating climate and disaster finance in the Pacific.
While in Palau, I will also meet with the Vice Present and Minister for Justice, Raynold Oilouch to discuss the Foreign Policy White Paper, development cooperation and our shared commitment to maritime security in the Pacific.
I will be in Palau over ANZAC Day and have the privilege of addressing the Dawn Service, with Australia having a direct connection to the fighting at the Battle of Pelelieu. I will also meet with Australia’s naval staff stationed in Palau and view the Pacific Patrol Boat gifted to Palau by the Royal Australian Navy.
I will also meet the Minister for Community and Cultural Affairs, Minister Temengil and four other female members of Palau’s Congress. This will be an opportunity to learn about Palauan women leaders, including their experiences and the progress made.
