COMMUNITY VALUE OF MEN’S SHED RECOGNISED

The worthy Helensburgh Men’s Shed has been awarded a grant of $5,000 from the Turnbull Government under the National Shed Development Programme.

Liberal Senator for New South Wales, Senator the Hon Concetta Fierravanti-Wells today congratulated the local Men’s Shed for their successful application for the grant.

“Any opportunity to recognise the good work of the Helensburgh Men’s Shed is an opportunity to promote the great benefits to any local men who need a bit of space and some friendly, easy-going company,”

“Feeling part of a social group is important to our emotional and mental health and the Helensburgh Men’s Shed should be proud that they stand by their motto, “the essence of a Shed is not a building but the network of relationships between the members” through providing men in the region with an opportunity for companionship.” Senator Fierravanti-Wells said.

Helensburgh Men’s Shed will use its government grant for Health Improvement Activities during Men’s Health Week in June 2018.

The Turnbull Government is providing a total of $5.1 million over three years to the national men’s sheds movement.

“Men are talking about their health more and more, and the men’s shed provides a safe and friendly environment for them to do so. Men’s sheds are integral to the community and the benefits to men’s health are widely acknowledged.” Senator Fierravanti-Wells said.

The National Shed Development Programme provides funding for health improvement activities, the purchase of tools and equipment, community projects and training, and for building maintenance and development.
